A hand-embroidered caftan is kept like soft goldsmithing: little water, little heat, little light.
Dry cleaning remains the rule. A machine wash attacks gold thread, flattens velvet, and leaves marks the atelier cannot always lift. Tell the cleaner about embroidery and beads; heavy pressing breaks the relief.
Iron on the reverse, low heat, no steam straight onto metal thread. Better still: a presser who knows ceremonial cloth.
Store the piece away from sun, on a wide hanger or flat in a cotton cover. Plastic traps moisture. Akaad buttons and sfifa braid should not be crushed under other garments.
After an evening, air it. Do not put away cloth that is still scented or slightly damp. A stain treated quickly leaves; a forgotten stain settles in the fibre.
